Houston Skies Are Made of You

I remember my first night in the cold big city. Seems like just yesterday that you made your grand appearance in my dull hotel room. “Welcome to Houston,” you gave me a reassuring hug and I thought I slipped into a dream.

I remember holding hands in the car while you drove me around town. I saw dashing cyclists crossing the road in Montrose, half naked men jogging in Herman Park, and sexy clubbers having coffee at The Village. But most importantly, I saw the most heart-warming face in the whole of US, right here next to me.

I remember holding hands again while watching a movie in the cinema. Your sweaty palms resting on mine, and my wandering fingers lingering amidst yours. Took regular intervals to turn and look at each other. Which movie did we watch again?

I remember the meals we had, American, Mexican, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Cajun, Japanese, Chinese, Korean. Whatever, as long as I was with you.

I remember us rushing to get ice-cream at 2am on a quiet Sunday morning, and then having to sit by the bench to finish it as the restaurant was closing. You grabbed me to sit closer to you as we braved the cool night breeze together, and laughed as I carelessly got a few drops of melting Mexican vanilla on my shirt. I wish I had told you that the ice cream was not the only thing that was melting at that moment.

I remember the passionate kisses in your car. One session everytime we got on, and another before we got off. You would tolerate no misses, no half-baked emotions, and no short-lived passion that was less than 10secs long.

I remember waking up in the morning in your bed, with your cat staring right at my face. I know he hated me for stealing you away. He have had you for 4 years, and me, a mere 3 weeks. Somewhere in his feline conscious I knew he would have forgiven me.

I remember sinking into your resounding chest as the cold jet descended rapidly down onto the dance floor in South Beach Dance Club. The rapid 20 degrees drop of temperature meant nothing, with your heart beating next to mine. Sexy half-naked Latinos eager to catch my attention, but my eyes remained fixated on you. I thought I heard you say you would never let me go.

And then, I remember the chaotic scene at the departure hall. The whole of Houston were there, trying to catch the last few flights out of the city right in the path of Hurricane Rita. No tearful goodbye, no extended hugs and kisses. (I had so waited for this moment). But you had to stay home to prepare for the worst. I understand.

And so a thousand-mile journey was just now coming to an end. For the full three weeks, I thought this was my life, and you were my soul. Braving KL never existed; Braving Houston was not necessary because you were right there with me. As the Boeing 747 slowly taxied onto the runway, I took one last glance of the gloomy overcast Houston sky and imagined you waving at me from the departure hall.

There is no place like home, but I left my heart in a city called Houston.

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Attack Of The 7 Inch Meat

South Beach Dance Club at 11:08pm on a Saturday night, right in the heart of Montrose, the city’s premiere hangout was the gayest place in town. At the entrance, a painstakingly slow age verification and payment process ensured eager patrons were kept slowly trickling in, so that a resulting long line that extended around the building quickly reinforced the popularity the place.

Two professional Latino dancers, beautifully structured, and clad only in a scanty velvety pink g-strings, were slowly swaying their bodies to the music. Notes of 5s, 10s even 20s, a contribution from admirers, were folded nicely against the spaghetti-thin straps. It definitely pays to be sexy. Got quickly chauffeured deeper in before I could drool any further.

Half naked servers scurried around serving up drinks for patrons who had thirst themselves silly shouting at their top of their voice amidst the loud thumping music, but the pool was where the heartbeat of the club lied. Managed to squeeze into a tasty mix of Caucasians, Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and everything in between as we started to bring our engines up to the beat.

In the midst of a Kylie's item, two half naked Latino muscle uncles started inching closer, and before I could say ‘Hola’, found myself sandwiched in an awkward position between the two very warm, swaying and sweaty bodies. The one behind me breathed down my neck, and I felt a pinch on my right bum. Turned around and got my left bum squeezed! CJ watched amusedly as the Latino Attack continued, I was lucky I did not get stripped, he told me later.

Closed my eyes as the next tune moved in. More attacks came and went, but the sights and sounds were too much to bear, and I thought I sunk deeper into the dream.

"You Won't Be Alone, I'll Be With You"

Detached from the place I grew up in and the people I grew close to, I still feel I'm dreaming when you say those words. The Hurricane Katrina evacuees don't seem as intimidating anymore, the prime cut steak looks more welcoming, and driving on the right side of the road seems second nature.

What good deeds have I done to deserve you?

The Furthest Gay Sauna from Home

In the furthest gay sauna that I have ever been from home, things are not as different as I thought they are.

They have dimly lit mazes too, though the addition of glory holes on the wall partitions, jailroom and sling for your S&M pleasures, a decent size swimming pool, cedar wood benches in the dry sauna, and constant showing of hot, steamy movies make for some interesting variations to life.

Along the corridors, a pride parade marches on, as they do back home. But the intentional over-exposure of eager members, with an statistically-averaged 7" size (witnessed and verified), spread across an international buffet of Caucasians, Latinos, Blacks and Asians, are virtually unheard of back home.

And as I get laid by this charming Italiano tastier and more fiery than a jalapeno pizza, I thought I felt a hint of the repulsive yet addictive lingering smell of Mirage.

But I am really in Midtowne Spa, the furthest gay sauna that I have ever been from home.

A Piece of Houston Sky

Wandered around downtown for three hours to find this perfect piece of sky. Spoken only to the cashier at Subway where I had my lunch. Munched down a baked cheese burger while watching a pigeon frantically danced around in search of food by the window. Made a mental note to bring along some chilli sauce next time.

Welcome to Houston!

Braving La La Land

1am, Departure Gate 62, Los Angeles International Airport. The travelling crowd hustled along the walkways as I sat on the cold mosaic floor against the wall by the edge. Faye Wong’s music piping through my earphones, but the comforting voice didn’t help offset the vast distance I felt with this chilly and unfamiliar place. I had travelled more than 12 hours by plane to here, yet I was another 3 hours away from my final destination.

Held on tight to the Starbucks frappucino in my hand, they don’t have Dome or San Francisco here in the States. The blended ice was fast melting but I couldn’t bear to take another sip of this calorie bomb, they made it just too sweet.

The passengers seemed bored waiting for boarding time, Caucasians, Blacks, Latinos and everything in between, mostly in Nike (didn’t raise my head high enough to see what they’re wearing above the knee), and almost always overweight. And then I noticed a few Asians. Wanted to sit closer to them but there were no more seats nearby. I was held back too long at the Immigrations, though the last time I checked myself in the mirror, I don’t look anything like a terrorist.

But then I guess I don’t look anything like a rich kid as well, coz the ground staff kept shoving me back to the Economy line and looked doubtful when I showed them my Business Class boarding pass. I will have my camera ready to capture the expression yet again when I board this next flight as a First Class passenger.

Found a shop that was still open, and bought two bars of Hershey’s to change the USD50 notes that I had. Very kind of her, the cashier. Thought my stomach was grumbling silly, but I didn’t feel like eating, so I stuff the chocolate into my bag. They most probably won’t last till my trip back home three weeks later, but I’ll get Mum something nicer.

Hummed along as the next tune filled my ears. It’s been more than 15 hours, just testing that I still know how to speak Mandarin.

I miss home already…

BravingKL, signing off from la la land.

For those with a shameless addiction for taking it from behind, please do not step into this outlet.

Bangkok As Presented by Google Earth

While checking out Google Earth again, I was delighted to find out that the City of Angels now have higher resolution satellite images. Immediately set out to browse around and retrace how was the previous 7D6N trip spent braving this breathlessly vibrant metropolis:

Silom/Suriwong Area (click on map for larger view):

  • The acclaimed Agogo Boy street featuring young Thai boys with disproportionately large endowments parading their stuff on stage for all to watch, behold, and for the courageous few, to bring back for some private enjoyment as well.
  • The very gay-friendly Suriwongse Hotel. Grab an agogo boy up with you to your room, and be assured that no eyelids are bat in the process.
  • Patpong area to practise your bargaining power, and Bahasa Melayu skills (useful when exchanging remarks with fellow travel mates) "U rasa mahal ke? I rasa boleh murah lagi la.."
  • Freeman, with its infamous cruising maze, and DJ Station gay discos to dance the night away, punctuated by beautiful aquas telling Thai jokes on stage. Just laugh along and they'll bet their lives that you're a local.
  • The Saladaeng Skytrain station to bring you around town, and ensure that the farthest saunas and most remote night markets are within reach.

Babylon and vicinity (click on map for larger view):

  • The acclaimed Babylon Sauna and Barracks and the more humble Malaysia Hotel in its vicinity.

Chakran and vicinity (click on map for larger view):

  • The Ari Skytrain station and at four roads and a 10mins' walk away, the equally famous Chakran Sauna, frequented mainly by locals, if that is your cup of tea.

Jatujak Weekend Market (click on map for larger view):

  • Nothing gay about this place, but which trendy fashion-consious sister can resist the collective temptation of 9,000 stalls spread over a 100,000 square meter of pure bargaining mess selling local goods from clothings, gifts, handicraft, textiles, furnitures, to pets and antiques?
  • Shown here with the Mo Chit Skytrain station just a few steps away.

Lumphini Park (click on map for larger view):

  • The premiere cruising park of Bangkok, where happy moments are defined by copulating couples making out in the shadows of the night, just by the lake, or watching hardcore body-builders sweating it out with rusty age-old equipments at the open air gym .

Happy Anniversary ERW

ERW is leaving.

Admist the countless experiences of the 60*-odd visits that we made to this bleak yet uncontrollably addictive world, most blur into fragmented pieces of short-lived existence worthless of a second mention, yet some break the clutter and shine through, leaving a trail of lingering emotions that are sometimes conjured up for further review and relive.

Nevermind the persistant yet confusing exchange of chemistry that never materialise.

Had a sudden notion to check the exact date we met, and it was exactly one year ago TODAY. Freaking sixth sense, but who's afraid.

Happy anniversary ERW!

*Calculated based on 1 visit per week, give and take occasions where we're horny (or bored) enough to pay a second visit on the same week, and occasions we decided to take a break, only to find ourselves in another sauna.

Pathetic Beings On A Rainy Tuesday Morning

Pathetic beings congregating at the main entrance of a famous embassy on a rainy Tuesday morning. The wet patches on their clothes were growing, yet their contorted faces, confused and hungry for attention, collectively stayed focused at the booth. The glass window seemed bullet-proof, conversations were conducted via a microphone and speaker fixed on the window, and exchanges of documents via a tiny slit at the base. Occupants in this tiny, protected world had every reasons to believe that the Chinese auntie dressed in a shabby green t-shirt with floral designs standing outside with her ignorant-looking daughter is a first grade terrorist 20 years in the making.

Stepping into this protected world via the similarly thick glass door immediately reduced them from lowly creatures to prehistoric single-cell species, capable of only processing simple instructions executed mainly with the pointing of fingers and nodding or shaking of heads. It is a wonderful sight to behold how significantly a simple uniform with a name tag can redefine class, authority and ego.

Over at the main office, more uniformed beings had evolved further to using telepathy as the main form of communications, thus voiding all forms of facial expressions required for the pathetic beings to gauge responses and process answers. With their piercing eyes, they scrutinized every inch of the subjects, now stripped of any form of dignity. From afar they came, to end up in this protected little world to appeal, plead and beg for a chance to step foot on the country so glorious that the notion of not being able to make it there in this lifetime itself was too heart-breaking too bear.

“2 working weeks you’ll have to wait, and don’t bother calling us,” the uniformed being concluded after a painstaking and tedious, yet well-organised process.

“Auntie,” I turned and talked to the Chinese lady who was now collecting her wallet from the security counter, “How did yours go?”

“That Cantonese-speaking Ang Moh asked me to go visit another country lah,” she mumbled, before disappearing into the congested streets on a rainy Tuesday morning.

Fresh meat market in the heat of the night, commodities being traded like hot stocks off the wall on a busy KLSE trading day. 'Brokers', on standby to receive orders from discreet men who have come from as far as Klang, keep themselves busy with the constant shuffling of photo cards, from either "Occupied" to "Available" to "Off Day". Pick a number quick, and go into the assigned room with your order.

Depression Sets In

Depression sets in, on a disturbing wee hours of a Monday morning. Weekend’s come and gone, and my heart races faster as I run down a list of things I absolutely need to do: more albums for my photography site (the traffic is dwindling), my Thai lessons (why am I still at the 18th lesson), the few e-books that I have downloaded and printed but yet to touch, workout (the 8-minute abs exercise is working fine, but I need to do more), playing the piano (the keyboard is collecting dust again) yet don’t get me started on work. I dread to add anymore. Don’t understand what’s with the constant rush. I stare hard at the ceiling, not a wink of sleep, and worry sick about the fact that I am only here in this world for the tiniest fraction of time, and this me won’t even be around to worry about anything anymore when the time comes. Grab my phone and start a frantic search of phone numbers and SMS’s to delete. I thought I’m liberated, never mind the shivering hands, but each step only make me sink deeper. And it’s ok if my job doesn’t bring me places anymore. I think I’m beginning to enjoy disappointment. It helps manage my expectations, don’t fly too high, don’t venture too far, stay put in my own cocoon of contentment, maybe the pain in my chest will go away. Images of Mum having meals alone, why are these haunting me again? She knows! She finally knows! I peel my finger nails, peel them hard enough to feel the pain, and I recall the last time I feel these piercing emotions, never too long ago, countless ones too, but I don’t remember the last time I cry. In and out of the pit, I’m going crazy.

On Any Pathetic Saturday Night

On Any Pathetic Saturday Night, a group of bubbly sisters make an appearance at Dome, Lot 10. Joining them is the rest of the 80% gay customer crowd, each with their usual pink circle. Flaunting the latest fashion, the best make-up, and the most perfect hair-do, the War of Glances heats up as the gay occupancy rate climbs further to 90% and beyond.

Conducted in a multitude of improvisations, it ranges from incessant checking on the magazine racks (just an excuse to allow for the head to turn and catch the charming object that just have to sit at the most inconvenient of angles), or discreet yet carefully spaced out stares of passing objects on the walkway, or long overdue looks that stubbornly linger on to the outlines of objects sitting within convenient ranges of the eyes and neck.

Peals of laughters and a multitude of noises choke the air amidst the soothing cafe music, yet the War of Glances remain well within its dark and quiet vacuumed space. It is an agenda hidden behind the thick curtains of a play in its glorious replay in front of admiring audiences. The undercurrent of hope (to see) and desire (to be seen) is too overwhelming, such as every action is carefully cheorographed, each expression carefully manufactured and each reaction carefully studied and processed.

Yet, the exchange of chemistry, as subtle as they may be, almost never materialise into anything beyond the War of Glances. Feelings are internalised and emotions are carefully shefted into the darkest corner of the universe, for any hint of self-initiated admiration is a testimony of vulnerability, leading to possible side-effects such as a bruised ego.

The War of Glances are fought with minimal water consumption, as it takes a 2-3 hour experience to reduce full glasses of fruit juice or coffee to empty containers that immediately become the target of enthusiastic waiters who waste no time in zapping them away from the table. Tuck the soul back into the safe enclave of the heart as the bill arrives, and the War of Glances draws to a close.

On Any Pathetic Saturday Night at Dome Lot 10, who says this is about catching up with buddies over a cup of ice mocha?

Hushabye Mountain

The soothing music fills the air as I take a deep breath and close my eyes. Imagine now I am on a time machine, traveling back to where it all started. Look out the window to see images flitting past in blinding speed; images of people whom I have come to know, and experiences that I have come to live. Most will blur into an unrecognizable pattern of hues and colours, but some will stay on for the longest of time, for better, or for worse.

A gentle breeze from hushabye mountain
Softly blows o'er lullaby bay
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting
Waiting to sail your worries away

Track 01:
The first meeting at Wangsa Maju LRT station turned out to be the start of a 4-year long relationship. What would I do without you?

Track 02:
Mr MD holding me close in his arms under the umbrella as we brave the rain at busy Bukit Bintang. The memories will linger on, coz I have got your perfume.

Track 03:
I said ‘Hi’ to a dark figure that had been following me for the whole night in Lost World. I remember asking if you liked me, the silence that followed was deafening.

It isn't far to hushabye mountain
And your boat waits down by the key
The winds of night so softly are sighing
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea

Track 04:
You stopped at the stairway before leaving Babylon, and waved frantically for my attention. I miss you, Nop. Can I hear you sing ‘Happy Birthday’ in Thai again?

Track 05:
Steamy sessions in the car on the rainy wee hours of Saturday mornings. Did we say we will progress to somewhere more comfortable?

Track 06:
Passionate kissing in the open showers for all to see. I think we can get rich if we charge.

So close your eyes on hushabye mountain
Wave goodbye to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from lullaby bay

Track 07:
Standing on the bustling agogo street with a stalk of rose and a pink balloon poodle in my hand. I will come back for you soon, I promise.

Track 08:
Squeezing amongst heaps of copulating bodies on a Full Moon Party in Towel Club. Every move I made resulted in contact with either a well-built chest, firm butts or a eager hard-on. But why was I not excited?

Track 09:
Lying on the beach at Datai on a breezy late evening, you wrapped yourself around me and fell asleep. Too much wine for dinner, I know.

Track 10:
Stood in front of a fully occupied lift at the office lobby as it closed on a busy Monday morning. I looked at you looking at me. Waited half a year before we did more than looking, but this only made the whole experience more fulfilling.

The Dinner at Cafe Cafe

The flickering candlelight blinded my vision temporarily, but your gleaming sincerity shone right through. I flipped through the CD book of the couple of Thai Pop CDs that you got me from Bangkok, and then you handed me a pouch with some pendants inside, personalized with my name, initials, and birthdays. Couldn’t help but felt a tinge of uneasiness as your close friends dining in the next table popped in and out of our conversation, or watched us closely from their tables, like nervous parents scrutinizing every action of the new suitor on the block. Thought I was unsuitably underdressed for the occasion. Then I watched in amusement as you tapped clumsily on your mobile phone, and made a mental note to teach you T9 input next time. Listened to more Thai pop in the car while I drove you home, you said you’ll introduce me to your lover of 20 years in due time.

In due time...

Nice to see you again, Mr Philosophy Men.

Desperate Old Men

Desperate old men, hiding in the darkest corner of the dark room, like starving tarantulas, waiting to pounce on the next unsuspecting meat that wanders into their territory. Their skills, horned to perfection from an age-old practice, ensure that the helpless victims, struggle as they may, are juiced dry, yet only the most horniest of all dare to venture thus far.

Desperate old men, alternating amidst the piles of copulating bodies, lending a helping hand (and often, tongue too) to further stimulate the anatomy to reach an ever-heightened pleasure. Rejection are common, but if they are lucky, these climatic events will temporarily disengage all mental processes of the occupied ones, thus allowing easy access to the heavenly bodies that are normally out of reach for them.

Desperate old men, standing since time immemorial at the open showers, like hungry vultures circling the sky waiting for their next meal, openly staring at weary bodies engrossed in the washing away of fresh evidences from passionate sessions upstairs. Visual contacts sometimes irresistibly turn more physical, but the culprits who expertly sneak a pinch or two on the buttocks are always hard to apprehend.

Desperate old men, wandering about the corridors in front of the rows of empty cubicles, like a peacock in the midst of a mating dance, waiting for eager suitors to come along, but their withering feathers have long expired their charm. Out of desperation they might coerce and pull, but outside their glittering careers and high-profile social life, they are defeated by the one thing money and success cannot buy: youth.

Desperate old men, making the last attempt to land a kill while changing into your Sunday golf attire or after office hours workout attire, and returning to your beloved family as a loving father and to your colleagues as a respectable leader. Hand over the locker keys at the counter and start recalling the outcome of an important meeting this morning, but how do you deal with the sad realisation of the long-lost appeal?

Welcome to Mirage, desperate old men. See you again next week.

伤心sauna,就算憧憬过,期待过,快乐过,幸福过,在踏出门口后也只成了过眼云烟。
